Not quite prepared to upgrade your operating system from Windows 7? No big deal, Windows 7 is fairly efficient. Here are a few tips to take advantage of it before you take the plunge into another OS.
Access videos from the Start menu: You can access your pictures and music from the Windows 7 start menu, but did you know you can customize Windows 7 to allow you to access your videos too? If you would like to do this, right-click the Start button and click “Properties.” Then, on the Start Menu tab, click “Customize.” A dialogue box will pop-up, scroll to the bottom and locate the videos section. Click “Display as a link” and hit “OK” and “OK” again.
Modify your Shut Down button: If you are not someone that shuts their computer down often, it is possible to customize your Shut Down button to put your computer to sleep, or restart it. Right click the Start button and click “Properties.” After locating the Start Menu tab select the “Power button action” menu. A drop down menu will appear which gives you a list of actions you can set as your Shut Down button’s action.
Add some privacy to your online searching: Windows 7 Internet Explorer automatically displays the latest searches you have preformed. If this is troublesome to you or you would like more privacy, you can choose to turn this off. To do this, go the Start menu’s search box and type GPEDIT.MSC then click “Enter.” After you do this, the Group Policy Editor will start. You can then select “User configuration” and choose “Administrative Templates,” “Windows Components,” and “Windows Explorer.” Once here, double-click “Turn off display of recent search entries in the Windows Explorer search box,” click “Enabled” and then hit “OK.”
