Wouldn’t it be awesome if playing video games ended up being actually good for you? Well, you’re in luck. A recent New York Times story reported on a new study indicating that playing simple video games seem to make your brain younger.

Benefits

According to the story in the Times, older adults playing a simple video game wherein they need to swerve to avoid cars while identifying road signs displayed the neurological brain impulses of much younger people. Researchers discovered that adults as old as 80 began showing neurological patterns more common to young adults in their 20s.

Researchers found, too, that the amazing benefits continued after older adults turned off the video games. This means that older adults again exhibited the neurological patterns of much younger adults when undertaking their daily activities.

Crack out those old games!

The study, then, is as good an excuse as any to drag that old Atari out from the basement. Put in your Space Invaders or Pac-Man cartridge and get down to business: It’s time to dip your brain into the fountain of youth that is retro video games.
