Apple’s most recently released operating system, Mountain Lion, has gotten a lot of positive press. A frequent statement about it is that it’s very easy to use and powerful*. But according to an article written by Mark Crump of for GigaOM, you may not be utilizing it to its full potential. The tips below are a few helpful ones that Crump highlighted. Ideally they will help you increase your productivity if you are working in Mountain Lion.

Managing Mail

Crump gives strategies for tackling your email inbox; this is smart, because many of us get overwhelmed by our cluttered inboxes. In general many people have inboxes that are filled with useless emails. The amount of email that actually matters is fairly small. To help with this common problem, Apple created the Mountain Lion Notification Center. The notification center allows you to create alerts that pop up when emails comes in to your inbox. You may create specific credentials so that it only notifications you when you receive emails from select parties.
This way you stay on top of your important emails and don’t get notified when emails from Groupon come in.

The Power of Reminders

If we get too wrapped up in one project, the little things can slip our mind, like calling a customer or running an errand after work. OS X Mountain Lion solves this by letting you set reminders for yourself. It is a very simple app to use and it even allows you to check tasks off once they are finished.

Relying on Notes for Important Codes

If you are consistently forgetting your passwords, you can use Mountain Lion’s Notes feature. This enables you to have quick access to your passwords or dial in codes for your meetings. It also syncs with iOS Notes so you can have your passwords wherever you go.
