It’s a sinking feeling: You’re showing your newly purchased smartphone when it slips out of your grip and falls to the concrete sidewalk below. This doesn’t have to be the death of your new mobile device though, not if you have invested in one of the newest cases — which have science backing them — meant to protect smartphones from unexpected falls.
Powerful protection
According to the Times, there’s a new science developing around cushioning the blows that smartphones go through when their owners drop them or unintentionally hit them against a wall. This makes sense — smartphones have become increasingly important in our lives. It’s little surprise that companies would spend big dollars to build new ways to protect them.
D30
The Gadgetwise column focuses on London’s Tech21. The company has invented a polymer, named D30 which it injects in its protective cases. This polymer soaks up and redistributes the force of a fall or shock, protecting the phones they encompass.
An investment worth making?
Are the cases worth your investment? Probably. Based on the Times story, the Impact Band case developed by Tech21 costs $30. The Impact Mesh case runs $35. Both are likely to make smartphone drops less catastrophic occurrences.
