Your Mac used to be fast. Now it’s slowed down. The problem could be your apps. They might be sucking up an excessive amount of your machine’s resources. Fortunately, writer Matt Elliott with CNET has a tip: Download one additional app, System Lens. This app will evaluate the apps currently running on your Mac and tell you which ones are consuming an excessive amount of power.
The problem with apps
Knowing what’s running is important because apps can quickly become resource hogs. Computer users today are increasingly loading up their Macs with apps. It’s not surprising; a great number of apps can make users more productive. Others are fun. But too many apps can change a quick Mac into a sluggish lump.
System Lens
This is where System Lens will come in. Elliott in his story says that this app will list all the apps that are currently operating on your Mac. The app will even give each app a ranking — low, medium, high — for the amount of resources it is consuming. Lastly, the app will show you how strained your entire Mac is overall.
Choices
What will happen next is up to you. You could opt to close or erase some of the apps consuming the largest amount of resources on your Mac. Doing so might provide a surprising, and pleasant, boost to your Mac’s speed.
