Do laptops and tablets hijack your work meetings? Do employees spend time checking e-messages, tweeting their friends and scanning news headlines as an alternative to paying attention to your plan to boost profits? Well, you’re not alone. Technology has spoiled many a work meeting.
The Solution
Because of this Jake Knapp, design partner at Google Ventures, writes in a recent post on the Medium Web site that workers need to be forbidden from carrying technology into meetings. Supervisors, then, have a far less challenging time attracting the attention of their workers.
Low-tech
Knapp recommends that employees bid farewell to their laptops, smartphones and tablets before going into a meeting. This makes sure they give attention to what you’re saying and not a raunchy joke sent to them by their best friend.
The timer is key
And to give hope to your suddenly tech-deprived employees? Set up a timer so that everyone in the meeting can see it. When that timer beeps, the meeting is over – no matter what.
